The Mental Game Of Golf

A large percentage of having a good golf game is mental. Golf is known as a mental game. Even Arnold Palmer knew this when he stated that "The toughest 6 inches in the game of golf is between a player's ears."

Learning to focus is one of the easiest and fastest ways to lower your golf score.

Focus is something that most golfers overlook and it is one of the most important parts of the mental part of the game. Many golfers think that they need to buy the latest gadgets, take golf lessons, or practice more to be more successful.

Focus on the result that you want and you can achieve it! Your level of concentration and focus determines the shot that you make. If you make shots without concentrating, then your ball most likely goes where you don't want it to go!

Take your time to focus when you swing. If you are tired, then take a break. It is very hard to focus when you feel tired. Many times if you take a break, you will have time to regain your focus and figure out what you need to focus more on.

Practice focusing by concentrating on items around your home. If your mind starts to wander, bring it back to the item that you are focusing on. This will help you to learn how to focus more efficiently.

You might find that this is very difficult to you the first time you try to focus. Try to hold the focus for at least three minutes the first time and gradually work up to twenty minutes. This will greatly increase your ability to focus.

Think about the next shot when you are playing. When you are between holes, allow yourself and your mind to relax for a few minutes. If you try to maintain focus for the entire game, you are going to get tired very quickly. Focus on your shots and what you need to do next.

Don't let yourself get out of control when you make a bad shot. If you do, then it will be hard to rein your emotions back in to allow you to focus. Try to stay relaxed and focused on your game, rather than riding the roller coaster of emotions.

When you feel yourself getting angry, take a breather and think about why you are angry. Then compare it to the big picture and realize that it is just one game. Minimize the situation so that you can maintain your focus for your next shot.

If you learn to focus, then you will have a big percentage of golf mastered and your game and your blood pressure will thank you for it!
